One major step toward breaking with the burnout is to stop overthinking what is coming up and to think positively about your current experiences, when you are in recovery from burnout, it can be a real challenge to develop the habit of positive thinking and to leave the comfort zone of darkness and laziness.

Thus it is why it's important to start by small steps; Try thinking of something positive and cheerful before you get out of bed each morning, you will find yourself smiling for a good reason, or else, at the end of the day, think back to great things that you did at work or at home.

You need to understand that even small accomplishments are celebration worthy, and these celebrations will help you rediscover happiness and colorful meaning in your life again.

Try to answer this question: “Why a Burnout?”

Positive thinking will not carry you through your burnout alone, you first need to recognize why you have experienced burnout. In some cases, the answer will be obvious, even if you try to turn an eye blind on it, other times, it will take some time and retrospection to expose the reasons.

First, detect any bitterness that you feel towards your work in general or some specific things during it, frequently, feeling of resentment toward multiple points makes it uneasy for you to enjoy your time, without knowing the exact reason, you feel that an important thing is missing, with sufficient time, you feel the burnout.

Once you have identified the cause (or the causes) of your burnout, write down all the ways that you can manage or eliminate those causes of anxiety or sadness.

Maybe it is time for a vacation

One good way to clear your mind, refresh your life and start your path toward recovery is to take a real vacation, leaving behind you –even for a short time- the crowded world of routine and responsibilities.

Sparing some time away from work gives you the distance you need to relax and de-stress, also you can refill your energy gauge for a strong comeback.

Even as the stress and troubles that you are experiencing at work may still be waiting for you when you get back, taking some time off is vital for getting the rest you need and coming up with a strong will and long-term solutions to burnout.

Check again your objectives

Burnout can take place when your daily work is out of harmony with your values and standards, or when it is not contributing for your long-term goals. All that may lead to frustration and ultimately burnout if you have no clear idea what your goals are.

Begin by identifying your principles and goals, and think about what gives you the real meaning in your work, then use this to make a personal mission avowal, this self analysis –even if it seems simple- will give you a profound understanding of what you find most important, and it will show you which things are missing from your work or life.

After that, look at the possible ways that can tie your values and mission to your current role, doing that opens the door for real internal peace and happiness, and could mean crafting your job to fit you the best, or just changing the way you look at your job.

Get enough sleep

Some people like to brag about not sleeping and feel superior when they work around the clock. This is like vaunting about cutting your own hand.

Depriving yourself doesn’t make you superior or more efficient; it only accelerates your burnout arrival. Getting enough sleep hours makes you smarter, better-looking for sure, more creative,  it can add years to your life according to several studies. You can read more about how you can get sufficient sleep here.

Exercise can make things better, or worse!

If you are burned out -even no one ever tells you to exercise less, maybe you should. Burnout period needs sufficient physical rest and adequate mental effort to reassess things and rebuild your mental state.

Unfortunately a lot of people fry themselves into physical pain by forcing workouts when all what they need is to rest. As we know, exercise helps prevent burnout, but amplifying it does not make the way to beat your burnout state, it only worsens your condition by adding physical pain and fatigue.

The answer to gauging how much you should exercise is to ask yourself: Is doing that fun? This simple question will draw the boundaries between healthy and helpful exercise, and burning your body into ashes.

Learn how to refuse

During your recovery, don’t take on any new commitments, you see, you are not the only person on earth who has to solve problems, learn how to take your part, and let people do their parts.

This might be a real challenge; particularly if you are a kind person who learnt to never turn down a request, people gradually will exploit your kindness and load you up with tasks and responsibilities to free themselves.

English language –and all languages- has a solution for you, it is called: no! Two letters, right? Use it diplomatically and politely and you will find yourself in a balance state.
